BAROQUE ROCK - AKRON, OHIO
SUNFLURRY

We’ve been talking about this project for a couple years now and we’re finally making progress!
Back in 2018, when we were still in New Orleans, we started playing songs by other local musicians. Most gigs there are 3–6 hours long, which is a LOT of music. Since we prefer playing originals, we didn’t really want to learn a bunch of cover songs to fill out our sets. So, we decided to work up a few by our local favorites.
In our experience, New Orleans has a ton of incredible cover bands, but it’s not really a place where songwriters can thrive. For the past four years here in Akron, we’ve been amazed at how much support there is for original music. That kind of support is what makes the music scene here so rich and full of incredible music.
I'm the main songwriter in our duo, but writing took a back seat while I was finishing my Berklee degree. After years of mostly music business classes, my creative bug kinda went to sleep. Honestly, I got tired of my own songs. We added a few cool copy tunes, but we needed something fresh to work on. What we love most is digging into the nuances of music—finding those little notes and moments that give us our creative fix.
We love going out to hear live music as much as we love getting on stage. Over time, certain songs we heard at shows stayed with us, got under our skin, and kept circling back around in our minds. At some point, the idea of recording and releasing songs by other local artists popped up. We’ve been chasing it for three years now, and finally narrowed it down to a few. We’ve been living with them, playing them at shows, recording and re-recording—trying our best to stay true to the songs while finding our own way of expressing them.
The first one is coming out soon. We’re excited about the way these are turning out, and after a lot of back and forth on how to approach them production-wise, we can’t wait to share our versions. Showing these recordings to the original artists is a little nerve-wracking, too!
