SUNFLURRY
Sunflurry burst onto the Akron music scene in the spring of 2021. The pair met in 2005 in their hometown of New Orleans, performing under the names Ruby & The Rogues and The Two's before settling on their current name. The duo consists of vocalist, foot drummer, and guitarist Ruby Rendrag, and cellist Suki Kuehn.
Sunflurry is best known for their captivating live performances that create a surprisingly vast and soaring sound. Ruby Rendrag—a multifaceted powerhouse—delivers sultry vocals with her guitar and Farmer FootDrum Kit, serving as the backbone of the duo. Suki Kuehn enhances the richness of their music with an array of effects on his pedal board, transforming the cello into a versatile instrument that fills the space with depth and texture. Their meticulous attention to dynamics and detail continues to captivate audiences wherever they go.
Beyond their artistry, Sunflurry is a passionate advocate for local original music, attending shows and actively promoting fellow musicians in the vibrant Akron scene, fostering a strong sense of community.
More About Ruby Rendrag
Ruby, hailing from New Orleans, was born to a Houma Indian mother and a banjo-playing West Virginian father. With over 18 years in the music scene as both a performer and recording studio manager, she brings a rich tapestry of influences to Sunflurry, blending bluegrass, rock, and 80s underground sounds.
More About Suki Kuehn
Cellist Suki Kuehn was born in Japan to a Navy family. He began studying the cello in fifth grade. After a stint in the Navy driving submarines, he settled in New Orleans, where he balanced a career as a chemical engineer with performing in various folk and rock ensembles. Suki plays an old French cello that, for who-knows-how-long, resided in a barn south of Paris. He shapes Sunflurry’s sound by blending prog rock, folk, jazz, and classical styles.
