TIMELINE

Suki Japan.jpg

1960s

Suki was "made in Japan" in the spring of 1959. During his first two years, he spent much of his time riding on the back of his Japanese nursemaid. She would take him to her family's rice paper house (known as a shoji) and feed him onigiri (rice balls). In this picture, he’s holding a music box.

Ruby was born in New Orleans on March 31, 1969  to a Houma Indian mother and a West Virginian banjo-playing father. She shares a birthday with Chris Walken and Bach. This photo was taken around the time she began playing guitar. Check out those gogo boots and groovy pants!

In the early '80s, Ruby played keys in her brother's band and played her first show at the renowned Jimmy's music club. During this time, she was heavily influenced by underground bands like The Cure, Gary Numan, and The The.

1980s

Suki is climbing out of a deep submergence rescue vehicle (DSRV), which is used to rescue disabled submarines and perform other secret missions. Throughout this decade, he spent most of his time building and driving nuclear subs in the Navy. He also assembled and conducted the Navy band for the officer candidate school graduation ceremony. During his time off, he explored the cello, recorded on a Yamaha 4-track with a Radio Shack Mini Moog, and listened to a lot of Peter Gabriel and Frank Zappa.

After seven years with the Navy, Suki returned to New Orleans, where he performed alongside his friend, guitarist, and singer Robert Calmes in their band, Drifthouse. During this time, Suki also produced five albums of his original prog rock, folk, and jazz compositions, all painstakingly written note by note with MIDI, and recently released under the project name Sand.

1990s

In the late '90s, Ruby realized that music was her true path. She began performing at open mics at Howlin' Wolf and had her first show as the frontwoman of her band, Kenny's Revenge, at Tipitina's in New Orleans.

Ruby continued to pursue her music career into the early 2000s, playing guitar for various local artists and collaborated with Lela Cloud on an album for their band Watyr. She also released her debut solo album, Wartime Favorites.
